Linear Façades

Linear Façades

The ventilated façade is an exterior enclosure system that allows for the regulation of the temperature in a building, optimizing the thermal and acoustical insulation by means of an air movement chamber. The intermediate chamber reduces extreme thermal changes in-between the parallel structures. It eliminates direct exposure to thermal radiation and consequently contributes to the protection of the building envelope.

The use of natural ventilation that these systems provide happens to be the most efficient strategy for the passive cooling of a building, and becomes quite relevant in places with major solar exposure. In cold weather, Simpleyfácil’s ventilated façades operate as an accumulator of warmth, thus limiting the direct impact of cold temperatures on the primary façade.

HOW A VENTILATED FAÇADE REGULATES TEMPERATURES

  1. The solar radiation from the exterior lands on the metallic façade. By way of the conductivity effect, this increases the temperature of the air that is lodged in the intermediate chamber, raising it above the ambient temperature inside the building.
  2. The hot air in the intermediate chamber now increases in volume, and thanks to convection (the chimney effect) is starting to ascend. The excess of pressure in the upper part of the chamber actually pushes the hot air out. This now induces the suction of cooler air from outside into the lower part of the chamber.
  3. This mechanism continues to operate as the exterior “skin” of the building interchanges energy with the air that is contained inside the intermediate chamber.

Two Concepts of Linear Façades

Technical Façades

The technical façade systems are designed to meet the demands of modern construction architecturally and in performance driven specifications.

The test results of the technical façades will show the most relevant characteristics that might be called for depending on the parameters of every project and the national and international standards that apply.

Design Façades

The design façades prioritize aesthetic versatility over technical demand, while maintaining the basic properties. Through the use of our standard componentry, the Design Façade system allows for the maximum amount of versatility by the utilizing our unique forms and compatible tools to give designers the building blocks for a facade that is their own.

Installation Systems

Press-in-place

The press-in-place systems designed by Fácil Façades consist of a basic or skeleton structure integrated by aluminum profiles called supports, upon which the various slat models are anchored in order to create the canvas or skin of the ventilated façade.

The slat is anchored to the support by snapping it onto a punched area of the support. You find these punches at equal distances of the support. The punched area can be part of the support profile  or it can be integrated as an adaptor into a larger support section called basic profile. In this case the so called universal adaptor is screwed onto the basic profile opening up the punched area of the adaptor.

Mechanical Assembly

The option to install the slats by means of a mechanical assembly was developed to address the necessities of large glass surfaces, where a clean look with a limited number of vertical supports is called for in order to preserve a major visual transparency.

The mechanical attachment of the slats to the building structure is done by brackets that stick out of the flat surface of the structure. The installation of the slats in various inclination grades limits the direct solar impact and projects shadows onto the building envelope, resulting in a temperature reduction in the building.

Another option is to install side plates on the interior of the structure. These are offered in various designs so as to create different façade design patterns.

Press-in-place systems

SURFACE is a construction system developed to broadly meet the demands for sustainable design in wall cladding and the installation of ventilated façades, aiming at energy savings and thermal comfort.

The system is made up entirely of extruded aluminum profiles both in its structural base and in its esthetics part. The value engineering provided by the design of the profiles allows us to offer a product that is easy to install, resistant to weathering agents, lightweight, highly durable and with very low maintenance.

The SURFACE constructive model is extremely helpful in the design part. For this, it puts in our hands three sizes of slats that can be combined randomly or according to size and color patterns resulting from the imagination and design objectives of each project. The intermediate size of slat offers the possibility of including a perforated surface for application in areas that require transparency towards the outside or spaces that can be integrated into a facade lighting concept. The flat elements favor the incorporation of colors, finishes and textures as an expression of elegance and design thanks to the variety of membranes or foils that cover our profiles and make the variety of our options unique in the market.

In the technical part, the various slats snap onto the structure made up of different die-cut profiles available according to the specific requirements of each project or application. The assembly of the slats includes a false or blind gap of 5 millimeters that prevents the entry of water and allows the entry of air from the outside.

Application as ventilated facades

The SURFACE system applied as an exterior ventilated façade, installed in parallel to the building envelope, creates an intermediate moving air chamber that helps to passively regulate the temperature inside the building, optimizing thermal and acoustic insulation. The intermediate chamber reduces extreme thermal changes between the parallel structures, eliminates direct radiation and consequently contributes to the protection of the building envelope.

The natural ventilation provided by this façade construction model happens to be the most efficient strategy for passive cooling of the building envelope and takes on greater relevance in those places where the solar incidence is greater. In cold weather, the SURFACE system acts as a heat accumulator limiting the direct impact of low temperatures on the primary façade.

Application as wall and ceiling coverings

The advanced technology for the manufacture of laminates applied to different surfaces has generated a wide variety of finishes, colors and textures that organically blend with natural finishes, in addition to offering a longer-lasting alternative to traditional metallic finishes. This wide variety of finishes reach their greatest potential thanks to the technical opportunities that the SURFACE system offers to cover walls or be integrated as a suspended ceiling in any type of project.

Fixed louver solar control systems are designed to limit the direct solar incidence on the glazed surfaces, improve the thermal performance of the glass due to the shading capacity of the slat and maintain high levels of visual transfer from the inside.

The perforated Plane system gives the facade an opaque appearance from the outside, while from the inside, the perforated skin practically disappears being completely translucent. On the other hand, as the sun sets we will begin to perceive the gaps in the facade and the appearance of the facade is transformed by acquiring a different dynamism that is typical of these architectural applications.

Technical Façades

Technical Façades

Technical Façades

The technical façade systems are designed to meet the demands of modern construction architecturally and in performance driven specifications. The capabilities of the system visually and technically include:

  • Blocking the view towards the interior of the installed surface.
  • The limiting of the infiltration of rainwater.
  • Providing air flow in various grades.
  • Optimizing the air pressure drop.
  • Enhancing the solar control / limiting direct solar heat gain in glazing systems.
  • Noise reduction.
  • Improvement of the efficiency of the building and reduction of the energy consumption.
  • High durability and a low maintenance cycle.

At Fácil Façades, we have engaged in a rigorous testing protocol internally and externally by utilizing 3rd party testing institutes as we continue our goal to meet all relevant project specific state, national and international standards that apply.

Not all of our products under the technical façade line are equal in terms of these capabilities. While selecting your chosen product, please discuss your application with one of our representatives  to determine the product that will meet the performance demands placed upon it.

Our definition of “Technical façades” is multifaceted.  It is both our solid façade and louver systems. It is a product designed for the architectural enclosure that offers solar control and, consequently, energy savings. It has a high aesthetic value that allows architects and façade designers to enrich their projects with different shapes, materials and textures. It is engineered to allow for quick and efficient installation. Simple. Beautiful. Effective.

The reason for this, is that the majority of our technical ventilated façades are PRESS-IN-PLACE SYSTEMS. Designed by Simpleyfácil, they consist of a basic structure of aluminum support profiles, upon which the various slat modules are anchored in order to create the skin of technical façade.

The slat is anchored to the support by snapping it onto the integral receptacles of our support profile. These receptacles are at equal distances along the length of the supports. The receptacle can be part of the support profile (T support) or it can be integrated as an adaptor into a larger support section called the basic profile. In essence, our system builds upon itself to create a variety of configurations and capabilities.

As there are many options within this type of façade group we differentiate with our own product portfolio in the following manner:

A. One dimensional façades

A singular form repeated through the entirety of the façade.

B. Multidimensional or volume façades

These façades integrate slats with a mixture of multiple dimensions in order to create depth and variety. The distribution of the different slats in this type of façades may be response to technical demands and/or purely aesthetic considerations.

C. Dynamic façades

Fácil Façades considered various options in the development of its dynamic façades program. It is tailored for personalized projects and can be molded to the budget in any combination of free air and integrated slat models. The characteristics to be considered are:

  • Color combinations
  • Slat dimensions
  • A modulated or random pattern
  • Smooth and/or perforated textures
  • Distance in-between the slats (please discuss with representative as there are set limitations)
  • The integration of intelligent systems

As with our Technical facades, our Dynamic façades always balance functional and technical goals. As with all of our systems, the distribution of free areas, the location of the slats, the combination of shapes,  can all be used in response to the desired visual transparency, airflow, or solar protection. Dynamic façades integrate all of these characteristics in new, unique and effective designs.
